Security Tip: Clean Up Your Social Media App Permissions

The Interwebz is a busy place and you've been caught up in the hubbub, signing up for one social media account after another over the years. And then you got your first smart phone and took all of those accounts on the go! By using apps to access, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and the umpteen other accounts you use professionally or simply for fun on a daily basis, you've become quite enmeshed in the online world.

Trouble is, all of the permissions for the apps you've used have really stacked up and there's a good chance you don't even remember what you've allowed to have access to your private and personal information anymore. Here's a basic housecleaning question: when is the last time you reviewed and updated the application permissions in your social media accounts?  Go on, take a look, I'll bet there are some Facebook apps that you've allowed into your private life that'll make your eyes pop!

It takes a little digging to get to the right place in each account to update your application permissions and visiting each one can be time consuming. Luckily, there's MyPermissions.org!

This is a handy new site that allows you to quickly and simply visit each account from one page and head directly to the spot where you can review your permissions for that site and delete any outdated permissions that you no longer wish to have access to your private account information. I took MyPermissions for a test run and it works like a charm! Fast and simple.

You'll be able to clean up permissions in a snap for: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Yahoo, Google, Dropbox, Instagram, Flickr, Windows Live, Familio, AOL and Foursquare

So get to it! Get on top of your personal online security today and make sure only the permissions you actively use are enabled and old, obsolete permissions are deleted. It's free and easy and you can't beat that.
