About the Client
Texas Frightmare Weekend was conceived by Loyd and Sue Cryer in 2005 as a three day horror convention, and the event takes place annually in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. True to its motto, “The Southwest’s Premier Horror Convention”, TFW provides fans with an unrivaled experience by celebrating all aspects of genre films. Texas Frightmare Weekend hosts celebrity appearances, autograph signings, screenings, exclusive parties and horror memorabilia vendors from all over the country. The event is also extremely proud to have featured the rising talents of many Texas “Frightmakers” in screenings, panel discussions and Q & A’s.
After humble beginnings at the tiny Grapevine Convention Center in Grapevine, TX, TFW (as it has begun to be called by attendees) is arguably the largest horror convention in the nation. The event boasts over 10,000 attendees annually and has hosted genre legends such as George A. Romero, Clive Barker, Malcom McDowell, Robert Englund, John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, Cary Elwes and hundreds more.
Challenges & Goals:
This project came with a ticking clock, as the event takes place in May and we contracted in early 2012. Our goals were to not only update the current site design with an up to date, grindhouse-inspired design aesthetic but to also get the site designed, built out and launched in as short a time as possible.
We consulted with Loyd frequently via phone and Skype, making sure to get his approval for every step of the design process, so we could ensure that the design was meeting his expectations early on. This prevented having to waste time on too many design revisions. We were able to nail down what he wanted visually in the first round of design and from there, only small revisions were necessary.
Outcome:
Loyd was an ideal client in that he was extremely responsive, communicative and very clear with what he was looking for. He was also quick to provide whatever content and imagery we needed. This, combined with an accelerated design phase with few revisions, allowed us to fully build out and launch his site in just 3 days, once the design was approved. Briana and Jennii worked in tandem to share the build out load, cutting build out time in half. We were able to launch the site with no issues or errors, and all SEO and peripheral functionality in place.
We also provided an updated Twitter background for TFW.
We're so proud to have had the opportunity to help Texas Frightmare with their new design and look forward to an exciting, ongoing relationship!
